An Operating Room (OR) Technician, also known as a Surgical
Technician or Scrub Technician, is a healthcare professional who works in the
operating room of a hospital or surgical center. OR Technicians assist the
surgical team during procedures by preparing the operating room, sterilizing equipment,
and setting up instruments and supplies. They may also assist with patient
positioning, wound closure, and other tasks as needed. OR Technicians must have
a strong understanding of anatomy and surgical procedures and must be able to
work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. They typically
work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, and may also
interact with patients before and after surgery.
OT Technician Work In Operating Room
- Check for cleanliness and proper operation of the suction and diathermy machines.
- Check the clarity and functionality of the operational lights.
- Clean, inspect, and prepare the operating table and its components.
- Prepare the operating room for each patient on the operating list who is scheduled to be operated on.
- Assist with the secure transport of patients from the operation table to the trolley and vice versa.
- Assist with the patient's placement.
- Assist the surgeon in applying a tourniquet.
- Assist nurses in inpatient treatment by adjusting and focusing the operation lights.
- Check the inventory of positioning aids and accessories on a daily basis.
- Cleaning the operation area between cases should take no more than 15 minutes.
- After the next case has begun or when time permits, transport dirty linen and surgical wastes to the disposal room.
- Before dumping the disposable suction liner into the biohazard bag, make sure it is tightly capped.
- Keep the OT suite clean on a daily basis, including the operating room, prep room, and scrub room.
- As directed in the protocol, clean the terminals at the conclusion of the list or after contaminated cases.
- Stay in the operating room to support the surgical team as needed, such as changing the suction liner or providing any additional equipment. Secondary Responsibilities are those that fall outside of the primary responsibilities
- Maintain the pantry's cleanliness.
- Patient transport from the ward to the OT
- Weekly cleaning of OT equipment (tourniquet, light source, etc.) is required.
- Assist with any other tasks that are allocated to you.
